Research Statement

The CHSS mission is to improve outcomes for congenital heart patients through research.
The essential feature of CHSS research is life-long follow-up of our patients. Life-long follow-up information is used to search for factors that improve, or harm our patients’ outcomes. Every variation of patient characteristics and management strategies is examined to determine their association with patient outcomes. These outcomes include long-term survival, freedom from complications including re-interventions and importantly, functional health & general well-being. By enrolling patients from multiple CHSS institutions we accumulate sufficient clinical experience for statistical analyses that reveal those factors that improve outcomes.
